Now that we have a #ds106 radio up and running creating a 15 to 30 second bumper for the station. What is a bumper? It is a short recording that identifies the radio station with signature music or an expression that makes sure the listeners know what they are tuned into (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumper_(broadcasting)). So for ds106 it should certainly include “DS106 Radio” and some sort of message about the station with voice over music.
I chose to do a radio bumper for our specific radio. Our radio is called Messy March, where we will be discussing all the celebrity drama and tea from over the years. Using a bumper specific to our radio and the topics we will be covering is beneficial because, it will keep listeners engaged. That is the point of bumpers anyway to remind the listening what station they are on, and encourage them to enjoy their time and come back again!
It took me a while to find and choose a song, because finding royalty free music is kind of confusing. This song was probably my 6th or 7th choice for the song I had wanted to use in the bumper, however all of the other “free” options required that I pay for a subscription in order to get the download. Funny how that doesn’t sound “free” to me at all. I was happy to find this song because this one was super simple to download and import into audacity. I included a mini music break in the beginning because I felt that too much talking all at once would have been overwhelming for the short break in our radio. I really like how this one turned out!
